How can an Acupuncturist help you via Zoom?
Good Question.
I had someone ask me how an acupuncturist could help them without being able to use needles. No, I will not be coaching anyone on how to stick themselves, and I’m not just “energetically” needling clients through video chat.
But for real. This is a great question! Most people aren’t aware that Acupuncturists go through three to four years of training that includes Western Biomedical Sciences, Pharmacology, Herbal Medicine, and classes on Traditional Chinese Medicine (you might see this written TCM). Traditional Chinese Medicine is an entire, in-tact, medical system with thousands of years of practice with nutritional therapy, lifestyle modifications, acupuncture, Gua Sha, Tui Na, cupping therapy and more. I studied Five Element Acupuncture which gives me additional training in seeing people in health and not just seeing them as a collection of symptoms. In my training, I learned how to diagnose complex patterns of disharmony in the body that arise from Causes of Disease that are sometimes external (from the environment) and sometimes internal (generated within due to an incorrect or unhelpful action of the body usually when it’s trying to protect itself). From these patterns and diagnoses, acupuncturists can identify lifestyle, nutritional, supplementation, and herbal recommendations that will support the body’s movement back to health.
Although in an ideal world being able to combine acupuncture with the other modalities would be great, the reality is that many people, especially in rural areas of the country, don’t have access to an acupuncturist in their area. Chinese herbal medicine is a powerful tool to get your health back on track and is very capable of standing on its own. The thing that drew me to Acupuncture and TCM in the first place is that it believes that the body is capable of a great amount of healing and that ultimately the goal is for you to learn to heal yourself. That is why our Wellness Coaching will teach you the tools necessary to start creating a lifestyle conducive to health so as to prevent disease and help eliminate symptoms from illness.
